Harmanpreet Kaur completes 8000 T20 runs, becomes second Indian batter to achieve feat after Smriti Mandhana

Mumbai Indians (MI-W) Women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur added yet another milestone to her illustrious career by completing 8000 runs in women’s T20 cricket as she became only the second Indian batter, after Smriti Mandhana, to reach this feat. The record moment came during Match No. 2 of WPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals (DC-W) Women at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The 35-year-old batter has been an important part of India’s middle order for over a decade. On the other hand, Mandhana is the only other Indian batter ahead of her in terms of T20 runs and leads the charts with 8349 runs. With 8005 runs to her name, Harmanpreet stands second, followed by Jemimah Rodrigues (5826 runs) and Shafali Verma (4542 runs).

Meanwhile in the game, coming in at number four after the former champions lost two early wickets, the right-hand batter played a fiery knock that stabilized the innings. She walked in during the fifth over and wasted no time in playing her shots. She hammered 42 runs off just 22 balls, smashing four boundaries and three sixes.

Harmanpreet’s innings guided MI-W past the 100-run mark in just 11 overs, stitching a crucial 73-run partnership with Nat Sciver-Brunt. However, her knock came to an end when Annabel Sutherland got her out for 42. Despite falling short of a half-century, her innings played a crucial role in MI’s total of 164.

Batting first after losing the toss, the side faced early setbacks as Shikha Pandey removed both openers, Yastika Bhatia (11) and Hayley Matthews (0), cheaply. Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings with an unbeaten 80* off 59 balls, hitting 13 boundaries. While Harmanpreet provided good support with her quickfire knock, MI struggled for contributions from the lower order, as they were bowled out for 164 in 19.1 overs.
