Harmanpreet Kaur to be fined 75% of match fee, receive three demerit points for destroying stumps and criticising umpires
Harmanpreet Kaur wasn't happy with some of the dubious umpiring calls taken during the third ODI between India and Bangladesh.
The third ODI, which was played at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, was set up to be a pulsating affair as the series was locked at 1-1. The match didn't disappoint as it went down the wire before ending in a tie. The series was shared by the two teams but some of the things that happened in the game stole the limelight.
Harmanpreet Kaur was given LBW while trying to sweep a fullish delivery during the second innings. However, the Indian captain didn't agree with the umpire's verdict. She vented her frustration by demolishing the stumps with her bat. While making her way out of the ground, the 34-year-old was also seen saying something animatedly to the umpire, and in the post-match presentation ceremony, she openly criticized the level of umpiring, calling it 'pathetic'.
As per a report from Cricbuzz, it seems that the experienced campaigner is going to land in hot water after her antics in the third ODI. The report states that match referee Akhtar Ahmed has adjudged Kaur's actions as a Level 2 offense. The experienced cricketer will be fined 75% of her match fee and will also be handed three demerit points.
"For the on-field incident (smashing the wicket) she will be fined 50 percent of her match fee while for the way she represented herself her in the presentation ceremony, she will be fined 25 percent of her match fee," he said.
Out of the three demerit points that Harmanpreet Kaur will receive, two will be for her on-field actions after her dismissal, while one will be sanctioned for her open criticism of the level of umpiring in the presentation ceremony.
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana slams Harmanpreet Kaur's comments on umpiring levels
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana was proud of her team as they managed to share the series with one of the best teams in the world. However, when asked about Harmanpreet Kaur's comments on the level of umpiring, the 25-year-old said that her opposite number needed to show better manners.
"It is totally her (Harmanpreet's) problem. I have nothing to do with it. As a player, she could have shown better manners," Sultana said during the press conference after the third match.
Bangladesh posted 225/4 after opting to bat first. India were going steadily in their chase but lost the plot towards the closing stages and had to settle for a tie.
