The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially appointed Haroon Rasheed as the chief selector of the national selection committee on Monday, January 23. The news was shared by the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi as he confirmed the same to the journalists during a press conference.

While it has now been confirmed that Haroon Rasheed will be heading the new selection committee, the status of the other members will be decided later.

The cricket management committee had earlier named former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi as interim chief selector as soon as the Najam Sethi-led management came into power in the PCB last month. Afridi had only taken up the position for the home bilateral series against New Zealand that concluded on January 13.

Even though the veteran all-rounder was given an extension by Najam Sethi on a long-term basis, the former declined the offer as he was busy with his other commitments including charity work. The other members in the selection committee included ex-pacer Rao Iftikhar Anjum and iconic all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.

"Haroon has now resigned from the management committee as we don't want a conflict of interest as he is now chief selector," Sethi said as quoted by NDTV.
