Ireland batter Harry Tector has left behind batting greats Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Virat Kohli in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings. Tector achieved the highest rating points by an Ireland batter to break into the top ten. The right-handed batter currently has 722 points to his name, which is the highest an Ireland male batter has ever achieved in ODIs, surpassing Paul Stirling (697 points in June 2021).
Tector gained a massive 72 rating points and jumped nine places to reach the seventh spot following his heroics with the bat in the recent three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Notably, the 23-year-old finished as the highest run-scorer in the series, with 206 runs at an average of 103 in three innings. He played a magnificent knock of 140 off 113 balls in the second ODI with the help of seven fours and ten sixes in his innings.
Praising the star batter, Ireland skipper Andy Balbirnie recently said that Tector has all the attributes to go on and become one of the greats of Irish Cricket.
Meanwhile, Tector’s heroics went in vain as Ireland lost the three-match series 0-2 after the first game got washed out. Tector’s 140 helped Ireland post 319/6 in the second ODI, however, Bangladesh ended up chasing the target to go 1-0 up in the series.
