It was a great day at the office for Australia, who dominated proceedings on Day 2 of the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium in Galle. Resuming the day on a score of 330, the visitors racked up runs at a brisk rate to declare their innings on 654/6. They then dismissed the openers as well as Sri Lanka's No. 4 batter to end the day with the momentum firmly with them.
It was a day to remember for Australian middle-order batter, Josh Inglis. His debut innings in Test cricket ended up with the 29-year-old finishing with 102 off 94 deliveries. He expressed happiness that his "special day" was attended by his parents.
"Hasn't quite sunk in yet. Really special day, something I'm really proud of, nice for the family as well. Getting a boundary first ball is always nice. Because, I've been around this group for a while, it didn't feel like an extra jump. Really nice to get this opportunity. Really special, nice to have your family around, mum and dad made the quick dash over. It's nothing that anyone can take away from me, a hundred on debut is really special and I'm proud of it," shared Inglis after Day 2 ended.
On Day 1, after electing to bat first on winning the toss, Usman Khawaja and Travis Head started off in proactive fashion as the Lankan bowlers seemed to be under the pump right from the outset. Although Head was dismissed for a quick-fire 57-run knock, Khawaja and Smith did not fail to capitalise on their respective starts.

According to how the match is placed at the time of writing, it would be nothing short of a miracle if Sri Lanka manage to rescue the game, or not end up losing the match by an innings. With the pitch wearing out as time goes by, the spinners are expected to shoulder the bulk of the workload going forward.
