'Having him at the crease is priceless' - Varun Aaron lauds MS Dhoni's match-winning cameo against LSG
CSK won their second game of the season against LSG by five wickets.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured the second win of the season against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Match 30 of IPL 2025. The visitors won by five wickets, thanks to a brilliant performance from the entire team. The five-time champions played brilliantly, especially in the first innings, restricting LSG to just 166 runs. The encounter, saw a magnificent performance from CSK skipper MS Dhoni, who scored 26* off 11 and took one catch, did one stumping, and a run out as well.
For his stellar performance, Dhoni was awarded Player of the Match accolade as well. Lucknow's BRSABV Ekana Stadium erupted in happiness after watching the 43-year-old cricketer smash a six off Shardul Thakur on the last ball of the 17th over. Living by his reputation of being the best finisher, the Ranchi-born stole the show completely with his astonishing hits all around the ground.
Everyone was pretty impressed by his performance, including former cricketer Varun Aaron, who said that having Dhoni at the crease is 'priceless.' Varun mentioned that the CSK's top-order played well, leaving a reasonable target for Dhoni to achieve.
"Having MS Dhoni at the crease is priceless, especially towards the end. I think today was one of those nights where the top order—especially the first two—gave him a reasonable target to achieve. In the previous matches, the kind of targets the lower order was getting were outrageous—needing 14 -15 runs per over—which doesn’t happen every day. But today, it was a very achievable target. And when you give MS Dhoni that, he’s going to get there more often than not," said Aaron via JioHotstar.
"The Lucknow Super Giants bowlers bowled one-dimensionally towards the death—only went for wide lines, didn’t try a bouncer, and didn’t try a good slow ball outside the off stump. They could have been better. Not giving Ravi Bishnoi that over is going to hurt them," added Varun.
