Justin Langer gave his opinion on the IPL mega auction scenario. In a podcast, the LSG Head Coach claimed it to be "bizarre" to retain a maximum of just five players every three years.
The former Australian coach believed in building a strong core of 20 players for a long period to be called a team.
"Last year we had 25 players, we retained 5, the rest 20 went back in the pool. Then you have this mega auction, and then you start all over again every three years. It is bizarre," said Langer on 'Beyond 23 Cricket Podcast,'
The former opener felt that no other sport has a scenario where the clubs or the national teams have to rebuild their team now and then.
"Can you think of any other sport where this happens? In my perfect world, I'd retain 20 players and build a culture, but that is not how it works," Langer added.
IPL is a league where the franchises undergo a massive transformation once in three years, through mega auctions.

I always thought we worked hard, but these guys are on a different level - Langer praises hardworking nature of Indian players
Langer claimed he had never seen more hardworking people than Indians.
"The hunger in India for work, I've never seen anything like it. They just practice, practice, practice. It is insane. I always thought we worked hard, but these guys are on a different level," the LSG head coach added.
LSG has had a good tournament in the IPL 2025 so far. In their five matches, the Lucknow-based franchise has claimed three wins and two losses. One of their losses against DC was a thriller. Their upcoming challenge would be to face the table toppers and the 2022 winners, Gujarat Titans, on Saturday, April 12.
