‘He can achieve anything’ - Clive Lloyd backs Virat Kohli to surpass Sachin Tendulkar's century tally

Legendary West Indies cricketer Clive Lloyd lauded Virat Kohli and stated that the batter can achieve anything he wants in international cricket. The former India skipper is in remarkable form at the moment, finishing as the leading run-scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023. After having a rough time with the bat in 2020 and 2021, the Delhi-born batter faced a lot of backlash, with some former cricketers stating that he should be dropped from the India squad.

Kohli, however, kept going and registered eight centuries in 2023, which took the tally to 80 international tons, 20 behind the great Sachin Tendulkar. Lloyd believes that the 35-year-old still has a lot to offer and can achieve the legendary feat if he can maintain his form in the coming times.

“I do not know about the period, but he is young enough and I am sure that the way he is playing he can achieve anything he wants to achieve and it would be something to be quite happy to achieve,” Lloyd was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Travelling 12000 miles for two Test matches doesn't make sense: Lloyd

Cricket South Africa has faced a lot of criticism in recent times for the happenings in the two-match Test series against India. West Indies are also slated to travel to Australia for a two-match Test series, which according to Lloyd doesn’t make sense, as they will be travelling 12,000 miles for the same.

The former cricketer expects the teams to play more Test matches in the coming times and also expressed that South Africa should have got a chance to host a third match to decide the winner of the series.

“At the moment probably they are having too many T20s and stuff. I would like to see a little bit more Test cricket. And if you are playing Test cricket, I would prefer three Test matches or five matches. I do not think the West Indies should travel to Australia, 12,000 miles, for two Test matches. It does not make sense. Like the other day, it is one-all (in the India vs South Africa series). Now the other Test would have shown who was the better of the two teams,” the 79-year-old said.
