‘He can achieve greatness and leave behind a legacy’ - PCB chairman Ramiz Raja encourages Babar Azam ahead of summit clash

Pakistan have advanced to the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and will play England on Sunday, November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Ahead of the summit clash, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has heaped praise on skipper Babar Azam and believes that he can leave a ‘legacy’ behind.

The Men in Green registered a massive seven-wicket win over New Zealand in the first semi-final of the marquee event at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Magnificent performances coming from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan helped the team book its ticket for the finals.

Ramiz is fairly impressed with the way the Pakistan skipper has taken the leadership role to a phenomenal level. Furthermore, Raja also opined that if Babar clinches the title, he could make a ‘great’ name for himself.

“I’ve just told him (Babar) that he has the opportunity right now to achieve greatness and leave behind a legacy. If he lifts the World Cup, nothing could be bigger than that in his career,” Raja was quoted as saying to the reporters after arriving in Australia ahead of the summit clash.

Pakistan emerged victorious in the 1992 Cricket World Cup thanks to an instrumental performance by the then-skipper Imran Khan. Furthermore, the PCB chairman stated that he delivered the same message to the current lot that Imran Khan had given to the side back in 1992 prior to the finals.

“That was the shortest speech. Because what you are supposed to do has been done. Your technique cannot improve or decay in the next 24 hours. It is a mental game now. I exactly repeated the words that our captain Imran Khan said to us at that time," told Raja.

The Men in Green face a formidable English side come Sunday in the finals. The match will certainly prove to be a mouth-watering clash and both sides will push their limits to clinch the coveted title.
