Despite flopping with the bat against Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders team management backed Mandeep Singh and handed him another opportunity to prove himself against Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the batter once again failed to make a mark as in-form bowler David Willey handed him a golden duck in the fourth over of the match.

Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar, who was part of the commentary team, was very unhappy with Mandeep’s performance and launched a scathing attack on the 31-year-old. The former India skipper pointed out that even though he has found a franchise every time in the IPL, he hasn’t done much to justify his place. Notably, the Punjab-born cricketer also scripted an unwanted record in the tournament. He now holds the record for the most number of ducks (15) in the history of the competition,

“He finds a franchise every time but he hasn't done much,” Gavaskar said on air.

KKR register a comfortable win over RCB at Eden Gardens

Even though Rahmanullah Gurbaz played some brilliant cricket at the top of the order, KKR were in deep trouble with the bat, after losing five out of their top six batters within 12 overs. Nevertheless, Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh stitched a very crucial partnership to bail them out of a difficult situation and put them in the driver’s seat after the first 20 overs of the match.

Thakur wreaked havoc, scoring 68 runs off 29 balls and it is his innings that completely changed the complexion of the game. Rinku Singh too played a vital knock of 46 runs off 33 deliveries and courtesy of their fiery innings, KKR posted 204 runs at Eden Gardens.

With the ball, the spin trio of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and debutant Suyash Sharma absolutely decimated RCB’s batting unit, as KKR won the match by 81 runs. Narine gave the important breakthrough and dismissed Virat Kohli, who was looking in good form and later, the spin wizard also sent Shahbaz Ahmed back to the pavilion. Chakravarthy, on the other hand, picked up four wickets in the match while Suyash picked up three.
