'He has been very consistent, is a handy cricketer to have' - Wasim Jaffer lauds Pakistan all-rounder after his remarkable performance against Netherlands
Pakistan defeated the Netherlands by six wickets to win their first match of the T20 World Cup 2022.
After being heavily criticised for their performance against Zimbabwe, the Pakistan team finally managed to register their first win of the T20 World Cup 2022 against the Netherlands on Sunday, October 30. All-rounder Shadab Khan played an instrumental role in helping the team to do so as the 24-year-old picked up three crucial wickets while giving away just 22 runs in his four overs.
Former India opener Wasim Jaffer was thus impressed with his valuable contribution for the team. Not just his batting or bowling, Shadab is a tremendous fielder as well. Thus, because of his multiple skills, Jaffer feels he (Shadab) is a very handy cricketer to have.
“He’s been very consistent. In modern-day cricket, we can see that the leg spinners or the wrist spinners are always in demand. Players who can bowl accurately, stump to stump. We have seen Rashid Khan, (Wanindu) Hasaranga, Yuzvendra Chahal for India. The leg spinners are the wicket-takers. They can be expensive at times but they get you wickets in the middle overs and Shadab does that exactly.
He is a very good batter as well in five or six. He is a very handy cricketer - something that Pakistan want him to do and he’s been delivering with the ball for a while and he’s a very useful striker with the bat,” the former cricketer said on BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.
Very happy with the performance, everyone executed their plans: Pakistan captain Babar Azam
Pakistan captain Babar Azam is under a lot of pressure at the moment as the 28-year-old is currently going through a very rough patch. Not just because of his batting but his captaincy is also under threat. A lot of Pakistan's former cricketers including Kamran Akmal among others have asked Babar to relinquish his captaincy already and thus, a win against the Netherlands must have given him the much-needed confidence going ahead.
Talking about their match against the Dutch side, the Pakistan captain seemed very happy with the team’s performance and also lauded the batters and bowlers for their excellent performance.
“Very happy. Performed very well in the bowling and in the batting. Length was crucial. Everyone executed their plans. In my opinion, we could chase better than this. But a win always gives you confidence. We'll try to do our best in the next matches and win,” said the captain in the post-match presentation.
