Batting first against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Rajasthan Royals got a terrific start, courtesy of their young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 21-year-old was brave enough to take on Mumbai’s bowling unit featuring Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith and others, as he ended up scoring 124 runs off just 62 deliveries. Courtesy of his impeccable batting, the visiting team were in a strong position at the halfway mark as the Sanju Samson-led side posted a target of 213 runs in front of the five-time champions.
Now, even though Rajasthan ended up losing the match by six wickets, Jaiswal swept most of the awards in the presentation ceremony, including the honour of becoming the Player of the Match. On top of that, MI skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praise on the youngster as the 36-year-old mentioned that Jaiswal has taken his game to the next level and wondered about his power-hitting abilities.
Furthermore, the Hitman revealed that Jaiswal has been hitting the gym regularly which has helped him to build his body to generate that big-hitting ability. Moreover, in a bold statement, Sharma said that Jaiswal's batting is not just good for him personally but also for the country and his franchise as well.
“I watched him (Jaiswal) last year, he's taken it to the next level. I asked him 'Where did you get the power from?' He said he's been going to the gym, that's good for him, India and RR,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
Yashasvi has played an amazing innings, congratulations to him: Tim David
After his match-winning innings against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2023, Australia batter Tim David appreciated Yashasvi Jaiswal for the latter’s maiden ton in the cash-rich league. He also mentioned that since the 21-year-old is originally from Mumbai, it must be special for him to score a century in front of the home crowd.
“He played an amazing innings, congratulations to him. He is a Mumbai boy, on his home turf it must be special for him. Well done to him,” David was quoted as saying by Mumbai Indians.
Meanwhile, with their fourth win of the season, the Rohit Sharma-led side has moved to number seven in the IPL Points Table while Rajasthan remain at number three.
