'He is on the borderline of a fracture' - Shane Bond on Jasprit Bumrah's back injury
Bumrah is out of action since the Sydney Test in January.
Former New Zealand pacer and Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond has shared his insights on Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury and future in the game. The 49-year-old stated that the injury scares might not be over for the Indian pacer, whose comeback in the Indian Premier League is still not confirmed.
Jasprit Bumrah is no doubt one of the best pacers in the world right now, but it turns out that he is still suffering from injury issues. He was set to play the current IPL 2025 season however, his availability for the franchise is still not confirmed. Bond has opened up on the condition of the pacer and has also said that the 31-year-old is on the borderline of a fracture, which also seemed like a warning for the MI team, who are competing in IPL 2025 this season.
“I don’t think so. He had the [2023] surgery, but he played all that [Australia] Test series, performed unbelievably. At the end of the day, he just bowled too much over one month, and it hasn’t cracked, he hasn’t got a fracture, he is on the borderline of a fracture. But what India would have learned is, if you then look at a five-Test series in England and they do the same thing, they are probably going to get the same result,” Bond said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Bumrah’s availability has not been confirmed yet. However, he was recently seen bowling in the nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The MI team will be hoping he can get back to full fitness and get back to bowling for the five-time champions very soon. Speaking of Bumrah’s performance in the IPL, he is the second-highest wicket-taker for the franchise, scalping 165 wickets from 133 games, and is only behind MI legend Lasith Malinga, who is currently leading the charts with 170 wickets.
