'He is one of the most talented cricketers' - Murali Vijay extols in-form Shubman Gill ahead of WTC 2023 Final

Shubman Gill’s meteoric rise in international cricket has caught the attention of fans worldwide. The youngster has earned praises for his outstanding potential to deliver for the team, be it in IPL or for India on the international platform. With five centuries in his first 18 international games for India, Gill has had a great year. His stellar achievements include a record-breaking double century in ODIs, his first century in T20Is, and an invaluable century in the Border-Gavaskar series.

During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Gill continued his stunning play and became the league's top run-scorer and came very near to breaking Virat Kohli's historic mark of four centuries in a single season. The Gujarat Titans opener won the Orange Cap in this edition as he smashed 890 runs in 17 matches. With such a remarkable period of play, all eyes will now be on Gill as he gets ready to play Australia in the ICC World Test Championship final.

Former India opener Murali Vijay emphasized on the importance of Gill’s role in the Indian team. He lauded Gill as one of the most talented cricketers emerging in Indian cricket and hailed him as a superstar. Vijay also emphasised the variations between T20 cricket and the Test format, stressing how crucial shot selection and concentration are in Tests. He praised the 23-year-old for his excellent form and attitude over the last few months. He believes that all Gill needs to do is relax, express himself fully, and deliver a strong performance for India in the WTC Final.

Shubman should give India a great start in WTC Final: Vijay

"T20 cricket is a completely different format. In Tests, discipline is the key, especially with the shot selection. Shubman Gill is one of the most talented cricketers coming up in Indian cricket and an absolute superstar in his own way. I'm pretty sure, the mindset he has and the form he has carried over the last couple of months has been outstanding. All he needs to do is take it easy and express himself fully in England and give India a great start," Vijay told on Star Sports.

This isn't the first time Vijay has spoken of Gill as a "superstar." The former India batter earlier referred to the youngster as the "next batting superstar in India" with Prithvi Shaw in March 2023.

"There are 15 superstars playing for India. If you are playing for India, you are already a superstar for me. But skill wise I really love Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. They are top players," Vijay had said earlier.

All eyes will be on Shubman Gill as the ICC World Test Championship final draws closer, as he looks to continue his stellar performance and significantly contribute to India's bid for the desired championship.
