There have been some unfortunate injuries within the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team this season which have resulted in certain replacements. One of them is South African young talent Dewald Brevis.

Brevis came in place of the injured left-arm seamer Gurjapneet Singh. He was earlier part of the Mumbai Indians in 2022 and 2024 but could not get a lot of games in those two seasons. With the CSK team struggling this season, there were speculations of Brevis being named in the playing eleven for the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has made it clear that though he is a great option to look at, there are other players in the mix who they will be looking at as well.

“He's one of the options that we'll look at. We've got other players as well who have been with us for the whole tournament. Brevis is a good addition to the squad, but we just have to manage what we think would be the best team, given the players that have been working away with us, and also look at the impact that Brevis can have. So that's part of the discussion," Fleming said as quoted by India Today.

We haven't had a single performance worthy of our honours board: Fleming

The Kiwi head coach also opened up on the problems the franchise has faced, one of them being how the middle order has failed to get going this season. Fleming has said that the middle order batters despite getting great starts have failed to convert them into big scores.

“It's a mix of things - maybe confidence is low. The IPL is tough. Players are getting starts - 20s and 30s - but we haven't converted those into big scores. We're missing that one 75+ innings that sets up the rest of the team. So the batting order hasn't quite clicked, and we haven't had a single performance worthy of our "honours board" this year," Fleming concluded.
