India were coming into the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the back of a 0-3 whitewash at home against the Kiwis. However, there was still an immense volume of expectations from the Indian supporters for the seasoned veterans to contribute to yet another potential Test series win in Australia. In the aforementioned category came Rohit Sharma as well. Rohit endured a tough time with the bat, managing to score only 31 runs in the five innings he featured.

Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Navjot Sidhu, backed Rohit to find his rhythm at the crease again by working on his physical fitness and spending more time in the nets refining his axe.

"He just has to work on his body fitness. He is a fantastic player, he is pure gold. How much have I met Rohit Sharma? Maybe 20 minutes on the ground during the IPL. Today, he wasn't able to play well against Australia, but in the T20 World Cup 2024, it was Rohit Sharma who hit Mitchell Starc for 3 sixes. Has everyone forgotten that? He is human after all. The more he practices, he will get better and better," stated Sidhu, as quoted by India Today.

Rohit's form crisis started since the commencement of the home series against Bangladesh, Since then, he has managed to accrue just 164 runs in 15 innings, averaging a mere 10.93. His disorganised run in batting rubbed off on his captaincy as well. Other than displaying an uncharacteristically irritable nature on the field, Rohit was observed being a tad too defensive with his field placements.

However, it seems as if Rohit has not lost his confidence and will to continue playing the longest format of the game. He clarified his intent via a candid interview with the official broadcaster during Lunch on Day 2 of the final Test of the series. India would hope for Rohit to find his bearings soon, as the Champions Trophy looms on the horizon.
