Pakistan's 2022 Asia Cup campaign ended in a harrowing defeat at the hands of a spirited Sri Lankan side, who clinched their sixth title in the tournament's history. Although Babar Azam's side were second best in the finale, they had a few eye-catching performers in their ranks, none more so than the young speedster Naseem Shah. Pakistan's bowling coach and former Australian tearaway pacer Shaun Tait lauded the youngster for his performance in the recently -oncluded continental tournament.
Shaun Tait, who rattled a fair few batters with his terrifying pace back in the day, praised the 19-year-old Naseem Shah for his intelligence with the ball in hand. The Aussie stated that the youngster is as free-spirited as he used to be in his playing days and possesses tremendous skills with the new ball.
“In some ways, Naseem Shah reminds me of myself when I was a younger cricketer. He’s sort of free-spirited. But I wasn’t as intelligent as he is at this age. I think you’ve all seen his natural abilities and skill with the new ball, which is excellent,” Shaun Tait said in the press conference ahead of Pakistan's first match vs England.
Notably, Naseem made his T20I debut for Pakistan in the high-voltage clash against arch-rivals India in the tournament and went on to scalp seven wickets in his five outings. He displayed exceptional control and ability with the new ball and even guided Pakistan to the final of the tournament with a heroic innings with the bat against Afghanistan.
Pakistan fast bowlers have their natural abilities: Shaun Tait
Pakistan are renowned for producing world-class fast bowlers, and the current crop of pacers are making the ball talk with their abilities. Tait further went on to highlight the bowling culture in the subcontinent nation and acknowledged that the bowlers have natural abilities on these shores coupled with flair and aggression.
"Pakistan fast bowlers have their natural abilities. They like to keep things simple but they’ve got so much ability and have a lot of flair. So, that’s already ingrained in these guys,” Tait said about the bowling culture of Pakistan.
