Legendary wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist reckons that Tim David must feature for Australia in the  T20 World Cup 2022, but at the same time also he also could not agree on which player needs to be replaced. After performing consistently in franchise cricket for a few years, the Singapore-born cricketer has finally been drafted into the Aussie squad for the next month's showpiece event.

Apart from Gilchrist, even his former national teammate and legendary batter Mark Waugh also was on the same page that Tim David must feature in Australia's playing XI at all costs. However, the 1999 World Cup-winning players reportedly could not decide on who exactly would be benched in order to make room for Tim in the playing XI.

It is a role that Australia have never really tried to fill: Adam Gilchrist

"Tim David should have a place in that XI," ICC quoted Gilchrist as saying."His power and the way he has taken it on...and seeing what we have seen from him over the last 18 months all around the world, it is really in all different conditions and they (opposition teams) will fear him coming in. It is a role that Australia have never really tried to fill, having someone who knows they are only going to get 15 or 20 balls (to make an impact)," he added.

"I have got Tim David in the XI at this stage. That could change with form, but that looks a pretty good side to me," Mark Waugh said.

Tim David played a match-defining knock in the series-deciding third T20I against India at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. At one point, Australia were reeling at 84/4 in the 10th over before the emerging all-rounder shell-shocked the Indian bowlers with a whirlwind knock of 54 runs from 27 deliveries at a strike rate of exactly 200.

It was courtesy of this herculean knock that the reigning T20 world champions managed to post a challenging total of 186/7.
