Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been one of the most successful opening pair for India. The duo started their journey as opening partners in 2013 during the Champions Trophy. For almost a decade the team did not look for some other pair as the duo dominated the slot. Now, as Dhawan is away from the national team, the veteran revealed the funny side of his camaraderie with Rohit.
It is very little known what conversations take place when two batters are in the middle. The southpaw revealed an inside joke between the two on the occasion of Friendship Day. Fans are well aware of Dhawan’s love for Punjabi music. The incident dates back to their playing days when the Delhi batter used to sing ‘putt jattan de bulaonde bakre’, a Punjabi song by the legendary singer Surinder Shinda. Rohit used to love the song sung by his partner and hummed along jokingly.
"I have opened with him for 8-10 years, so I have a strong bond with him. He is a gem of a person. Usse bada achha lagta tha jab mai ek gaana gaata tha pitch pe (he used to like it a lot whenever I sang one particular song), 'putt jattan de bulaonde bakre'. So he would look at me and then sing the same song. It's one moment that repeated often. He remembered a couple of lines from the song, which he used to sing and then laugh,” Dhawan told Star Sports.
Here's the video of Dhawan's conversation:

Rohit, Dhawan dazzled in opening role

With the arrival of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, India found the younger slot to fill in opener roles in the shorter format and red-ball cricket respectively. Currently, Dhawan is serving as Punjab Kings captain in IPL.
