'He'll have a good comeback' - Shanto backs Shakib amid dismal form
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is hoping that Shakib Al Hasan will come good against the Netherlands in an important Group D fixture on Thursday, June 13.
Shakib Al Hasan has had a forgettable first couple of matches for Bangladesh in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. However, the talismanic all-rounder received support from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who said that one or two innings could go wrong in the shortest format of the game.
Bangladesh are set to play a very crucial game against the Netherlands on Thursday, June 13, at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. Both teams are on two points from as many matches and are fighting for a spot in the Super Eight stage of the marquee event. Bangladesh won their first game of the tournament against Sri Lanka before being beaten by South Africa. The Bangla Tigers showed grit and determination during both games but the form of the experienced Shakib has been a major cause of concern.

The 37-year-old has registered scores of 8 and 3 against Sri Lanka and South Africa respectively. Meanwhile, he has bowled just four overs across the two games in spin-friendly conditions but failed to pick up a wicket. In his last eight T20Is, Shakib has only contributed 97 runs and taken six wickets. However, Shanto said that the veteran is working hard in the nets and hoped that he would come good against the Dutch side.
"It is important to know how much he expects than the expectations of the people. He is trying his best and working hard. I would not say he will come back. He is in a good condition already. I hope he will deliver well tomorrow," Shanto said in the pre-match press conference.

The southpaw clarified that Shakib is doing completely fine as far as his eyes are concerned. Shanto also asserted that the former Bangladesh skipper isn't feeling any pressure as he has a lot of experience.
"Just one or two innings can go wrong in this format. I do not feel any pressure as a captain. And I know that he also does not feel any pressure. Because he has a lot of experience, I think he will have a good comeback," added Shanto.
