‘Here comes their most consistent batter’ - Dhruv Jurel's tongue-in-cheek jibe at Tom Hartley

India beat England in the fifth and final Test at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala by an innings and 64 runs. During England’s second innings, India’s wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel was heard mocking spinner Tom Hartley when the latter walked out to bat.

England made a terrible start in their second innings, as their top three crumbled to veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the first 10 overs on Day 3. The tourists eventually lost five wickets before Lunch, with Ashwin claiming four wickets and Kuldeep Yadav picking up two. At that point in time, it appeared England were about to suffer an innings defeat in the second session of the third day.

Ashwin, who was playing his 100th Test, completed a fifer with the wicket of Ben Foakes shortly after the break and stand-in captain for the day, picked up two wickets in an over. Thus England were reduced to their last two. Later, Ravindra Jadeja claimed the last wicket of Shoaib Bashir to finish things off for India.

“Here comes their most consistent batter,” Jurel said to Hartley on his entry.

India beat England by an innings and 64 runs

Ashwin starred with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul as India bundled out England for 195 in their second innings on Day 3 and won the game by an innings and 64 runs. With this win, India clinched the series 4-1, making them the first team to win a series against England in the ‘Bazball era’ under captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. Joe Root was the stand out batter for England in their second innings, who massed 84 off 128 deliveries with the help of 12 boundaries.

Earlier on Day 1, England made the worst possible start after winning the toss and batting first. Kuldeep Yadav (5/72) and Ashwin (4/51) led the bowling attack as India bowled out England for 218 runs. India batters, on the other hand, showed promise as they put up a mammoth score off 477 runs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were key for the hosts, with both achieving significant centuries. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal, debutant Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan all struck respective half-centuries.
