Here’s how the World Test Championship Points Table stands after final Australia vs South Africa Test

The third and final Test match between hosts Australia and South Africa ended in a stalemate as both sides kept each other at bay on the final day at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). This essentially meant that the Aussies clinched the series 2-0 due to their wins in the previous two Test clashes against the Proteas.

The visitors concluded a miserable tour with a hard-fought draw. Australia required 14 wickets at the start of the day, and thanks to the lower order in the first innings and the top order in the second, South Africa ensured they only gave away six of them.

Though the Aussies were pushing hard for a win despite the occasional showers interrupting the play, the hosts will be satisfied with ending the contest on level terms after clinching the series in the second Test. It is worth mentioning that opener Usman Khawaja carved out a terrific unbeaten 195-run knock in the first innings which propelled the side to post a total of 475 runs before declaring. The majestic knock handed him the award for the Player of the Match against the Proteas in the third Test.

Adding to this, Josh Hazlewood who returned to this side, produced a sensational comeback as he scalped five wickets across the two innings which included a four-fer in the first bowling innings.

South Africa slip to 4th place in WTC Points Table

With the 2-0 win over the Proteas, team Australia continues to keep their keep place on top of the points table of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle. With the match ending in a stalemate, Australia now has a percentage of 75.56 which is significantly higher than the rival sides in the standings. 

It is to be noted that the Aussies are also in contention for a spot in the summit clash of the WTC 2021-23 cycle. With them, team India and Sri Lanka, who stand in the second and third places are also on the cusp of making a place in the finals of the global ICC event.

Australia’s next red-ball assignment is a major one as it comes against rivals team India in a four-match away series. Both sides will be keen to obtain results in their favour and cement their spot in the ICC event.
