Here’s how the World Test Championship Points Table stands after second Pakistan vs England Test
Pakistan's hopes of qualifying for the WTC finals received a huge blow after their second consecutive loss against England.
After a swashbuckling victory in the first Test against Pakistan, England produced another memorable performance in Multan to clinch a historic Test series. Ben Stokes' ravaging England won the toss and decided to bat first on a tricky surface at the Multan Cricket Stadium. England posted a competitive total in their first innings on the back of brisk half-centuries from Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope.
However, it was Pakistan's debutant Abrar Ahmed, who stole the show with his glittering 7/114, restricting England to 281 in their first innings. Pakistan got off to a turbulent start in their reply, losing both their openers cheaply. But skipper Babar Azam and promising youngster Saud Shakeel rescued the home side with their respective half-centuries. But a meek collapse from the lower-order batters handed England a commanding first innings lead.
Despite the pitch proving to be a formidable opponent, the English batters continued with the aggressive approach at the crease in their second innings. Duckett produced his second half-century of the match, while Harry Brook's masterful ton put the visitors into a commanding position in the match.
Chasing an unlikely series-leveling victory, Pakistan's makeshift opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan came out with a positive mindset, putting up a counterattacking stand for the opening wicket. But England's veteran pacer James Anderson opened the floodgates for the visitors with a pearler to dismiss Rizwan.
The injured Imam-ul-Haq and Saud Shakeel kept the English bowlers at bay with a combative partnership, but the former fell at a crucial juncture to hand England the advantage heading into the fourth day of the contest. Mark Wood's blistering pace proved to be too hot to handle for the Pakistani batters as England clinched the series in thrilling fashion.
