India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been on a record-breaking spree in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as he became the leading wicket-taker in the tournament’s history from India. Having warmed the bench in the first four matches, Shami was included in the playing XI after the injury to Hardik Pandya and has taken the tournament by storm ever since then. The 33-year-old has scalped 16 wickets from just four innings at an average of 7 and an economy of 4.30.

Recently, Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan was interviewed by a news channel and was asked to comment on his ex-husband’s terrific performance in the World Cup.

“I don’t watch cricket, nor am I a fan of cricketers. I don’t understand the game hence I’m unaware of his performance. If he’s performing well and playing well it will help him to seal his place in the team and will also help him earn more which will secure our future. So, there’s nothing better than that,” Hasin Jahan was quoted as saying by News Nation.

Further being asked to extend his best wishes to Shami and the Indian team for the ongoing World Cup, Jahan said that she can give best wishes to India but not him.

“I will surely give best wishes to team India but not him,” she added.

Notably, in 2018 Hasin Jahan accused Shami of alleged domestic abuse and adultery and lodged a police complaint in Jadavpur. She even accused the cricketer of getting involved in match-fixing. However, the fast bowler denied all the allegations against him and continues to fight the divorce case in court.

Earlier this year, the Kolkata High Court ordered Shami to pay INR 50,000 monthly to Hasin Jahan as maintenance and INR 80,000 for his daughter.

Shami has scalped 47 wickets in just 15 matches in the ODI World Cup at an outstanding average of 12.74  and an economy of 4.90 with a joint-record three five-wicket hauls to his name.
