Holding PSL-10 alongside international commitments will be a challenge but we are ready: PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi

The Pakistan Super League has been the face of domestic franchise cricket in Pakistan, much like the Indian Premier League has been for India. Since its inception in 2016, the tournament has only grown in stature, attracting quite a lot of international superstars to participate in the tournament, in addition to a plethora of coaching staff being integrated into the nine-year-old tournament.

Notably, the PSL has customarily been hosted in the first three months of every year. However, as reported by the Pakistan Cricket Board previously, conducting PSL-10 in 2025 within this period would encounter considerable hurdles.

January of 2025 will see Pakistan culminating their tour of South Africa, post which, in February a 50-over triangular series involving Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa has been framed to take place. Just after the triangular series, would Pakistan host the Champions Trophy, which is slated to spill over into a good chunk of March.

The chief of the PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, while underscoring how much the PSL meant to Pakistan Cricket as a whole, addressed that it will get its due importance while considering the demands of the international schedule. He professed to it being a tribulation, however, he noted that the PCB will be making a full effort to execute the tenth edition of the PSL with seamless fluidity.

“PSL is Pakistan’s brand which is why it will get its due importance. Holding PSL-10 alongside international commitments will be a challenge, but we are ready for it,” Naqvi was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

It's worth noting that the tenth edition of the PSL would mark the end of the currently existing contracts, with conversations about expanding the team count and renewing contracts with current franchise to be made shortly. The triumph of the 10th edition is pivotal for safeguarding the brand value of PSL.

Additional considerations regarding the scheduling of the PSL are on the agenda for the upcoming council meeting, where stakeholders will be involved in the decision-making process.
