The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recently launched a three-round bidding process for The Hundred franchises.

This initiative, which began on October 18, 2024, has attracted attention from unexpected quarters, including Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and nine Indian Premier League (IPL) teams. The Hundred, a 100-ball cricket tournament introduced by the ECB in 2021, is now seeking private investment to boost its profile and financial stability.

Reynolds, known for his successful co-ownership of Wrexham AFC, has expressed interest in the Welsh Fire team. This potential involvement of a Hollywood star could bring publicity to the tournament.

Meanwhile, the interest from IPL franchises is noteworthy. Teams like Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are among the nine IPL teams showing keen interest. Mumbai Indians, already expanding their portfolio globally, are reportedly in discussions with both Lord's (London Spirit) and The Oval (Oval Invincibles).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru is not interested in The Hundred equity sale

The GMR group, co-owners of Delhi Capitals, are eyeing the Southern Brave outfit, building on their recent acquisition of Hampshire Cricket. This will make them the first entry of an overseas investor into English County cricket.

Other IPL franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are also in the mix, with the latter's co-owner, Manoj Badale, based in England, making their interest evident. Interestingly, Lucknow Supergiants owner Sanjeev Goenka is exploring a partnership with Avram Glazer, a shareholder in Manchester United and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Except for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Torrent Group, the new partners in Gujarat Titans all other franchises are interested in the competition. Even GT's minority partner CVC is reportedly interested and will participate via their UK arm.
