Hong Kong Cricket Sixes set for comeback in November

The famous Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament will be back in action after a hiatus of seven years. The show-piece cricket event was widely received by the audience all over the world, and was initiated in 1992 before ending its 25-year run in 2017. The event will return to existence through a three-day festival in November 2024.

It is worth noting that, legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Shane Warne have been part of this one-of-a-kind format before. The latest edition will take place from November 1 to 3 at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground, organized by Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK) and supported by the Hong Kong Government.

“We are excited to bring back this iconic event that showcases our city as a truly world city and a sporting capital of East Asia to the world and our cricket credentials. The strategic plan is to develop the Hong Kong Sixes into a global series, culminating every year with the grand finale at home,” said Chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China Burji Shroff as quoted by News18.

Previous editions had 10 teams in total vying for glory unlike the impending edition boasting of 12 teams. As Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) is a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the league is a sanctioned event by the ICC.

The league gained an immense fanbase with stalwarts like MS Dhoni, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, Sanath Jayasuriya, Anil Kumble, Umar Akmal, Glenn Maxwell, and Damien Martyn featuring in it. Teams that made their presence felt were India, Australia, England, Pakistan, and South Africa along with others that had helped the Hong Kong Sixes garner wide attention.
