Though Pakistan Super League 2024 has somewhat failed to attract audiences to the ground, Imad Wasim has surely made a lot of heads turn with his performances. Wasim, who plays for Islamabad United in PSL, has been the primary force behind their championship title this year. He orchestrated a string of outstanding spells in the knockout stages of the league and impressed the people sitting behind the closed doors of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Islamabad United’s captain Shadab Khan has urged Wasim to make himself available for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The winning skipper also stressed that the conditions in the West Indies and USA would suit Wasim’s bowling style, and he could be a lethal weapon of the national team for the all-important assignment. However, the spinner has officially retired from all forms of international cricket, and his sole presence lies in franchise cricket.
“I want to, in fact, when Imad made the decision, I had also talked to him that I didn't want him to leave. Because Pakistan needs players like him. God willing, if there is a discussion with him, hopefully he will come back because the World Cup is approaching and the way he is performing and his experience in CPL (Caribbean Premier League), Pakistan definitely needs him,” Shadab stated as quoted by ICC.

The 35-year-old played a crucial role in the United’s final against Multan Sultans. He picked a fifer to contain the Sultans for just 159 runs. Not only with the ball, his contribution with the bat was also worth commending. He scored a valuable 19 runs, remaining unbeaten, during United’s chase. This was the third match where the all-rounder made his presence felt, and the other two were the Eliminators.
In the first of the two knockout games, Imad snared three vital wickets against the Quetta Gladiators. The southpaw then carried the momentum to Eliminator 2, where his batting skills were put on display and turned the match in United’s favour with an unbeaten 59*(40). With the T20 World Cup 2024 slated to begin in June, the all-rounder is surely going to be discussed at length among PCB think tanks, in case he decides to slide the national boots back.
