On Saturday, January 18, India captain Rohit Sharma and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar attented a press conference to announce a 15-man squad for the impending Champions Trophy 2025, which will be co-hosted by Pakistan and the UAE.
In recent squad has four players missing from the unit which played the ODI World Cup in 2023, which they lost to Australia in Ahmedadad. The biggest miss this time is Mohammed Siraj, who shared the new ball in almost every game during the ODI World Cup. Instead of him, India have opted to pick Arshdeep Singh, who will add a new dimension with his left-arm angle.
Meanwhile, the biggest addition has to be that of Rishabh Pant, who pipped another serious contendor in Sanju Samson. Pant was absent from the squad for the ODI World Cup as he was recovering from the horrific accident he suffered in December 2022.
Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel have earned their spots in the Champions Trophy squad. Axar was a part of the 50-over World Cup squad but he was injured ahead of the tournament and subsequently replaced by Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently retired from international cricket. Yashasvi has received an ODI call-up for the first time for the England series which precedes the Champions Trophy. Washington Sundar is also a new addition into the squad.

The Karnataka pacer has not been named in the Champions Trophy lineup.
