However, many wonder how much Ranji Trophy players earn per match. Over the years, the salary structure has seen changes, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revising match fees to support domestic players better.

BCCI’s effort to improve Ranji players' salaries
For a long time, domestic players felt that their earnings were inadequate compared to the Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts. Recognizing this, the BCCI introduced a revised salary structure to ensure better financial security for Ranji players.
Current salary structure for Ranji Trophy players
The salary of a Ranji Trophy player varies based on the experience and participation in matches. A player who has featured in over 40 matches earns INR 60,000 per day in the playing XI, while reserves earn INR 30,000. Players with 21-40 matches of experience receive INR 50,000 per day, while less experienced cricketers (0-20 matches) earn INR 40,000. Even non-playing squad members receive INR 25,000 daily.

BCCI’s plan to increase domestic players’ earnings
The BCCI has been working towards limiting the earnings gap between domestic and IPL players. According to reports, the board is considering increasing domestic match fees further, with discussions led by the selection committee head, Ajit Agarkar. The idea is to ensure that players who do not participate in the IPL still have a sustainable income through domestic cricket.
The proposal includes potentially doubling the match fees, allowing domestic players to earn between INR 75 lakh to INR 1 crore annually if they play a full Ranji season. Under the current pay scale, a senior player can earn around INR 25 lakh if their team reaches the final, while others make between INR 17 lakh and INR 22 lakh.
Aakash Chopra on domestic players' salaries
Meanwhile, former India opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opened up on the salary of domestic players.
"But after IPL was introduced, you saw more money coming in for domestic cricket because BCCI's revenue chunk got expanded. INR 10,000 was your per-day fee, and then you got a percentage from the board's profit. The fee was increased to INR 1,00,000-1,50,000 per match. If you have played 8-10 matches in a year, then you can make INR 10,00,000-15,00,000. In today's day, I think the players have even more," he added.
