Australia defeated India by six wickets to lift the ODI World Cup 2023. The Pat Cummins-led side suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of India and South Africa to kickstart their campaign but eventually won nine matches on the trot to win their sixth title in history. They were incredible on the night of the finals, as India were on the back foot for the majority part of the match.

Notably, courtesy of winning the tournament, Australia have been rewarded with USD 4 million, which is slightly more than INR 33 crore. On the other hand, the runners-up India, have been rewarded with USD 2 million, which is slightly more than INR 16.5 crore. Other than that, Virat Kohli was adjudged as the Player of the Tournament while Travis Head was handed the Player of the Match award for being terrific with the bat and also on the field.

Meanwhile, batting first, Rohit Sharma gave the perfect start to the Men in Blue. The skipper went about business from the very first and helped India gain momentum. However, towards the fag end of the powerplay, the 36-year-old lost his wicket and soon, Shreyas Iyer walked back to the dressing room without contributing much.

Australia win their sixth ODI World Cup title in a dominating show against India

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stabilized the situation after that but there always pressure on the home team as the duo wasn’t been able to rotate strike well. KL Rahul ended up playing too many dot deliveries as the plan of hitting towards the end didn’t go well. Kohli eventually got out on 54 runs while Rahul hit 66 runs off 107 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja once again had a quiet game with the bat while Suryakumar Yadav too couldn’t make a mark as India posted 240 runs on board.

The bowlers were incredible in the powerplay, picking up three wickets but Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne stitched a partnership of 192 runs, which pushed India out of the contest. Head hit 137 runs while Labuschagne scored 58* runs as Australia won the match by six wickets.
