Hyderabad defeated Chattisgarh by 243 runs to clinch the Buchi Babu Tournament in 2024. The Rahul Singh-led side demolished Chattisgarh in both departments to win the final with absolute ease. Notably, batting first, Hyderabad posted 417 runs on board. Opener Abhirath M made 85 runs while Rohith Rayudu played a very important knock of 155 runs.
Chhattisgarh didn’t know how to get the better of him and that arguably made the difference in the end. Keeper-batter Rahul Radesh also did his part. He made 48 runs while tailender Aniketh Reddy made 29*. For Chattisgarh, Jeevesh Butte, Vasudev Bareth, Gagandeep Singh and Shashank Tiwari picked up two wickets each. They lacked experience in the bowling department which proved costly in the end.
In the second innings, Hyderabad bundled Chattisgarh for 181 runs. Aniketh picked up four wickets while Tanay Thyagarajan and Rohith picked up three wickets each. The Amandeep Khare-led side had no answer to Hyderabad’s bowling as barring Gagandeep Singh’s half-century, no batter could step up. Two of their first five batters scored in single digits, which also went against them.
In the third innings, captain Rahul played an important knock of 68 runs. The surface wasn’t easy to bat on but he led from the front. Keeper-batter Rahul once again contributed well with his 41-run knock as Hyderabad posted 281 runs in the second innings. For Chattishgarh, Jeevesh wreaked havoc, picking up six wickets. Only if he had been this effective in the first innings, the scenario could have been different.
Despite chasing 517 runs in the final innings, Chhattisgarh were in no mood to give up. The openers gave a perfect start, as Ayush Pandey made 117 runs while Shashank Chandrakar made 50. However, the middle order collapsed and that led to Hyderabad’s massive win in the final. Tanay Thyagarajan picked up a five-for while Aniketh picked up two in the fourth innings to get the job done.
It is a good sign for us ahead of the season: Rahul
Meanwhile, as per captain Rahul Radesh, the win will give them plenty of confidence ahead of their return to Elite Group for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Besides, he also lauded his side for showing resilience while falling behind at different stages of the games. He also commended his side for playing aggressively throughout the tournament.

“We wanted to play aggressive cricket and did it throughout the tournament. We did that in the Plate group last year, which was a bit easy, but we played against some good teams here. So that is a good sign for us ahead of the season,” said Rahul as quoted by SportStar.
“In the semifinal against TN, we were on the backfoot after giving the lead, but we came back. We must win from behind because, in the Ranji Trophy, you will find yourself in similar situations, so you need to win such games,” the skipper added.
