Due to a finger injury, young Australian all-rounder Cameron Green missed the first two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, the cricketer has now declared himself fit and stated that he is cent percent ready to make his return to international cricket ahead of Australia’s third Test against India at Indore, which is slated to begin on March 1.
Notably, with skipper Pat Cummins missing the third Test, Green will be a valuable addition to the Australian squad in case he gets an opportunity to feature in the playing XI. The 23-year-old in the meantime revealed that he was very close to making his return in the Delhi Test, but couldn’t do so and ever since, trained really hard to play the last two matches of the series.
“I was so, so close last game but I think probably having an extra week has helped a lot, so I’m 100 per cent ready to go,” Green was quoted by ESPNcricinfo to have said so.
Talking more about his absence in the second Test, Green revealed that he wasn’t fully fit and it probably was the right decision since there’s a lot of cricket left in the year.
“We were all on the same page, I reckon (on his selection). It was just a few instances in the nets where I'd go for a sweep and it just jarred the end of my bat. I went for a sweep to a pretty new ball, just caught the very end of it and had a bit of pain at the back of my finger, but apart from that it’s been really sweet the last two weeks, I’ve got a lot of confidence in it,” the all-rounder added.
“We probably just thought that we'd sacrifice a game and with obviously the year ahead that we've got, it's probably the right call,” he responded to a question regarding the second Test.
Now interestingly, Green will remain in India after the Test series as he has been called up for the ODI series as well. Post that, he will be playing for Mumbai Indians in the 16th edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League.
