'I am a bit disappointed'- Aakash Chopra not satisfied with Sarfaraz Ahmed's snub from upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy
India's test team for the upcoming test series against Australia was unveiled on January 13, 2023.
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed his displeasure over Sarfaraz Khan's omission from the Indian test side yet again.
India's squad was announced on January 13, and Suryakumar Kumar Yadav alongwith fellow India teammate, Ishan Kishan, received their maiden test call-ups. Despite a consistent record in the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz Khan was once again ignored by the selectors.
"He deserved a chance": Aakash Chopra expresses displeasure in his video
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 45-year-old stated that Sarfaraz Khan had done everything to get noticed for national selection and that it was extremely unfortunate that the youngster did not make the cut. The 25-year-old's domestic record is outstanding yet missing out on selection might just demotivate him.
"Sarfaraz's name is still not there. He feels he got cheated because his name probably should have come. Bumrah is still not there. That's another news but I am more concerned that Sarfaraz is not there, as he has done everything in his power to be in the Indian team. I am a little disappointed, that if you had a chance to select even one guy because both Surya and Sarfaraz don't come in the XI, Sarfaraz had the right in my opinion. If someone's domestic season is going so good, you should have rewarded him," Chopra said.
Moreover, he emphasised that apart from Sarfaraz, only the great Sir Don Bradman had an average of 80 or more in the matches he played. With such a phenomenal record it was quite unfair on the youngster.
"When you picked Surya, it means a slot had opened up. In my opinion, Sarfaraz should have gotten that chance because Sarfaraz's first-class average is 80. Apart from him, only Bradman has an average of 80 or more in the number of matches he has played," Chopra added.
