I am flexible at whatever number I get to bat: Shreyas Iyer
Iyer reflected on his batting position and commented he is happy to be placed anywhere within the batting order as he keeps the team's interest above everything.
In a remarkable display of flexibility and unwavering commitment to the team's cause, Indian batter Shreyas Iyer showcased his prowess with a scintillating century against Australia. Iyer's sensational knock of 105 runs off 90 deliveries, embellished with 11 boundaries and three towering sixes, played a pivotal role in India's resounding victory by 99 runs through the DLS method in the second ODI of the enthralling three-match series held at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
After being entrusted with the task of setting a daunting target by Australian skipper Steve Smith, the Indian batting juggernaut orchestrated a commanding target of 400 runs. Shubman Gill and Iyer, forming an impregnable partnership, both notched up centuries, amassing an astounding 200-run stand. In a post-match interview with Jio Cinema, the 28-year-old elucidated his flexibility when it comes to batting positions, echoing the team's ethos of adaptability. He stated,
“Management has told me that I would be batting at this particular number. I am flexible at whatever number I get to bat, whatever the team requires at that point of time. If I have to go lower down the order or up the order, I'm fine with it.”

As India gears up for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, Iyer has been included in the 15-member squad of players representing the country on a world stage. He is touted as the batter who could provide a formidable backing in the middle order and has been in the scheme of things owing to his exceptional white ball record. The Mumbai batter expressed his determination to rise to the occasion despite lingering doubts about his fitness.
"There is competition and that's the best part of being in the team. When you represent India, you know there will be challenges. As a professional, I can't complain about that. And all I can say is that I would embrace the opportunity that the future presents and see to it that I leave no stone unturned," Iyer commented.
