The 63rd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Super Giants and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Sports City Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 16.
Courtesy of excellent knocks by Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis, Lucknow posted 177 runs on the board in the first innings. Mumbai failed to capitalise on the good start provided to them by Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Tim David did show glimpses of class, but he too was unable to chase the target down.
It was the brilliant final-over heroics of Indian pacer Mohsin Khan that propelled Lucknow to a thrilling win by five runs. The 24-year-old was handed the ball in the final over of the run chase when Mumbai required 11 runs to win the game with Tim David and Cameron Green on the strike. The 24-year-old bowled brilliantly and conceded just five runs in the over, which helped Lucknow register an emphatic win.
After the thrilling win, Mohsin Khan came forward to give his take on his performance in the game and dedicated his victory to his father, who is currently sick. The 24-year-old finished the game with one wicket to his name after conceding 26 runs in three overs.
"I am playing after one year. I was injured, and it was a tough time. I am happy to bowl, and my father was in the hospital in the ICU. He was discharged yesterday, and I am hoping he is watching. Today I played for my father. He was hospitalised and is out now. Thanks to the team and support staff for having faith in me," Mohsin said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
After their win, Lucknow moved up to third place in the IPL points table, as they now have 15 points in 13 games. On the other hand, they are closely followed by Mumbai, who sit in fourth place with 14 points in 13 games.
