Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, who had a tough evening against Pakistan in the Super 4 game of the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on September 4, Sunday, is unfazed by all the criticism and backlash he has received on social media. The 23-year-old said that he has only taken positives from it and that has given him confidence.

India registered their first defeat in the Asia Cup only in their opening Super 4 game, and one of the defining moments in the game was Arshdeep’s dropped catch in the 18th over of the Pakistan innings. It was batter Asif Ali who got the reprieve on his very first ball, and he went on to score 16 of his next 7 balls.

Darshan, who spoke to his son Arshdeep after the game, said that the pacer only laughed at all the tweets and messages. Arshdeep’s mother Baljeet said that the youngster has had the backing of the entire Indian team

You can’t shut everyone’s mouth: Arshdeep Singh's father

“Spoke to Arshdeep before boarding. His exact words were, ‘I am laughing at all these tweets and messages. I am only going to take positives from it. This incident has only given me more confidence,” Darshan, who is a chief of security in a private company, told The Indian Express after landing in Chandigarh on Monday.

Arshdeep, after the dropped catch, had his chance to redeem himself as he was given the responsibility to bowl the last over. But, having to defend only 7 runs off the last over was asking a lot of the left-arm pacer. Pakistan ended up chasing the target of 182 with a ball to spare. Darshan said that, as a parent, all the trolls and criticism aimed at Arshdeep look bad because he is only 23.

“As a parent, it feels really bad. He is only 23. I don’t want to say much about trolls. You can’t shut everyone’s mouth. Without fans, there is no game. There are some who stand by you no matter what and others who can’t digest a single loss. But at the end of the day, only one team can win,” the pacer's father said.
