'I could have gone to jail' - David Warner recalls pranking Ricky Ponting which hilariously backfired
The incident occurred during Australia's Test series against South Africa in 2010.
Australia and Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner recalled the moment when one of his pranks backfired against Aussie great Ricky Ponting. It is no secret that the explosive southpaw is a thorough entertainer both on and off the field with his antics.
Recalling one of his pranks during the series against South Africa in 2010, Warner revealed that he smeared Vaseline on the door handle and also jammed the keyhole so that Ponting could not get into his room.
"It was in South Africa in 2010, my first away series. Ricky Ponting's room was beside mine and I thought it would be a good idea to put Vaseline on his door handle and I also put vegemite in the keyhole. I could see through my peephole that he wasn't able to open the door. Someone must have told him it was me,” Warner told on the show 'Breakfast with Champions'.
That was the last time ever I pranked on Ponting: Warner
However, Warner also revealed how his prank massively backfired a couple of weeks later after Ponting himself decided to teach the former a lesson.
"Three weeks later I was back home and I didn't open my cricket kit. Later when I went to put my shoes on, there was salmon, eggs, etc. I could have gone to jail from the customs trying to clear this all up. I was like 'Who could do this?' and then I thought, Punter. I told him it was disgusting, but he then told me, 'You want to play a prank on me? I will have the last laugh'. That was the last time ever I pranked on Ricky Ponting,” he added.
Notably, Warner and Ponting were part of the Delhi Capitals setup and concluded their season with 10 points in 14 matches. In the process, the side became the first team to get knocked out in the race for the playoffs courtesy of their dismal run in the top-tier league.
