The move by Indian players Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep to answer questions only in Hindi while addressing the media has upset the Australian reporters. It has caused a substantial amount of controversy in a series which has already had a fair share of other controversies.
Apart from the above, another incident of note which added fuel to the fire was Virat Kohli asking a media person at the Melbourne airport to not film his child. However, former Australian skipper Michael Clarke is not surprised by the approach of the Indian team, saying not much has changed in the Indian team’s approach towards the media. He gave examples of Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni saying they have always been restrictive while addressing the reporters.
“I don't think much has changed, to be honest. I've experienced Indian teams coming here, and their captain, MS Dhoni, didn't do one press conference during the entire Test series. So, Sachin was very restrictive around when he chose to do media. I think it's been the same for a long time. So, I like the fact they're still putting someone up," he said to ESPNcricinfo.

“I think they made it pretty clear before they left India what they were going to be like when they arrived in Australia. They're going to stick to themselves, stick to their plan. Gambhir made that very clear in the first press conference. So, I don't know why anybody's surprised, and for them, it'd be about what's happening on the field, not off the field. So, I don't think even the chat around it would be bothering India too much," Clarke added.
Speaking about the match, the Australians are very much in control at the end of Day 1 with star batter Steven Smith and skipper Pat Cummins still at the crease with the score at 311-6. While most of the Indian bowlers failed again, Jasprit Bumrah managed to give some relief to the Indian team ending with figures of 3/75.
