Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has backed star batter Virat Kohli to have a stellar run in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. He feels the former India skipper could score at least one century in the series.

India are all set to play a three-match ODI series against Australia, with the series starting on March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The second and final match will be played in Visakhapatnam and Chennai on March 19 and 22 respectively.

"I would say there is no competition in one-day cricket for Virat Kohli. I expect Virat Kohli to get at least one century in this series and it might be a failure based on his standards if he doesn't. While I anticipate one century, he has the potential to score even two. He also likes playing against Australia and when he has form, it continues for a long time. So, fingers crossed, we get to see his centuries," Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.

"They would definitely want to maintain their dominance. India would also look to finish their season on a high because IPL 2023 will start after this and all the Indian players will feature for different franchises. This is the final chance for a while for all the Indian cricketers to play together. It is also a great opportunity for India to show they are firm favorites to win the World Cup. Hence, they will want to perform strongly before the season finishes,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli, 34, scored his first Test century since November 2019, as he scored 186 in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, India retained the Trophy, winning the series 2-1 after the final Test ended up as a draw. India also booked their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played at The Oval from June 7.
