Sheldon Jackson has scored a ton of runs in List-A cricket but has failed to get his national call-up. The 36-year-old batter recently got another setback when his name was not included in the West Zone's Duleep Trophy squad.
Jackson labelled Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik, two well-known names in Indian cricket, as his professional inspiration. He talked about how Dhoni and Karthik keeping themselves fit even towards the end of their professional careers inspire him.
In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Jackson emphasised Karthik's commitment to the contest by stating, "I get inspired when I see Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni. I have witnessed all of Karthik's transformation. At this point of my career, he is my greatest inspiration and motivator."
When asked about his exclusion from the West Zone's Duleep Trophy squad, Jackson declined to respond, claiming that the selectors alone were responsible for their choice. "I am not going to comment on anyone's selection. I can only talk about myself. I'll never call a selector and inquire as to why I wasn't chosen," he continued.
Jackson, on the other hand, backed himself to achieve all of his unfulfilled dreams in the future. The Saurashtra cricketer's record in limited-over format may not be all that outstanding, but his red-ball cricket has allowed him to show off his talent as he has performed exceedingly well in the red-ball format.
"If I wasn't good enough, I wouldn't have played 90+ games with an average close to 50," Jackson responded.
Sheldon Jackson has come a long way since he made his Saurashtra debut in 2011. He has a few more first-class cricket matches to play before reaching his 100-match milestone. In his 90 first-class games played to date, Jackson has amassed 6608 runs, including 20 centuries and 36 half-centuries. Jackson has made 77 appearances and amassed 2643 runs at an excellent average of 38.30 in List-A cricket.
