'I hadn't said anything big at the time but it's ok, things happen' - Yashasvi Jaiswal on his verbal spat with Ravi Teja in Duleep Trophy
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named in India's squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies in July.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the most talented young cricketers in the Indian circuit at the moment. He has been a force to reckon with in domestic competitions. In 15 first-class games, the left-handed batter has scored 1845 runs at a staggering average of 80.21. In List A cricket, he has notched up 1511 runs from 32 matches at an average of 53.96.
Jaiswal also had a memorable Indian Premier League 2023 season as he scored 625 runs in 14 matches, during which he registered the fastest fifty in the history of the cash-rich tournament against Kolkata Knight Riders off 13 balls.
It didn't come as a surprise when he was named in the Test squad for the two-match series against the West Indies in July. The Mumbai batter recently recalled an infamous incident that he was involved in during Duleep Trophy 2022. Representing West Zone, Jaiswal was seen constantly sledging South Zone player Ravi Teja. West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane, eventually, decided to send Jaiswal off to the dressing room. The Southpaw said that he is aggressive mentally and hadn't said anything too big during the incident.
“Now what is the use of talking about things that have already happened,” Jaiswal said on The Lallantop when asked about the incident. “Aggression is important and I am aggressive mentally. Sometimes that comes out I guess. But I hadn't said anything big at the time but it's ok, things happen. What is the use of talking about it then. I don't want to say anything. I would rather keep it with me, absorb it like a sponge. When I need to squeeze it, I will," Jaiswal said on The Lallantop.
When asked if some players don't get sledged, this is what the 21-year-old had to say:
"Who says that, it happens to everyone. No one really comes to know about it. It depends upon who is saying what. Bhai mereko koi mere maa behen ke baare me bolega, thodi sununga (If someone says things about my mother or my sister, I won't tolerate it),” he said.
India's Tour of the West Indies begins on July 12
The Indian team lost the World Test Championship final to Australia earlier in June. Since then, they have been on a much-needed break and will get back on the road with a two-match Test series against the West Indies, that will also kick-start their 2023-2025 WTC cycle.
The first of the two Test-match series begins on July 12 in Roseau, Dominica. The second Test will be played in Port of Spain, Trinidad, commencing on July 20. The Tests will be followed by three ODIs and three T20Is.
