I helped Imran Khan become the Prime Minister, but never received a thank you call: Javed Miandad

Legendary cricketer Imran Khan's tenure as Pakistan's Prime Minister was marred with several controversies. He eventually became Pakistan's first prime minister to be ousted through a no-confidence motion vote in parliament. Khan's party - Tehreek-e-Insaf lost the support of coalition allies and that didn't help his cause as he couldn't get the majority to defeat a no-confidence vote.

In an interview with ARY News on Saturday, Khan's former teammate Javed Miandad said that he helped him become PM. However, Miandad regrets the fact that he wasn't thanked by the former Pakistani bowling all-rounder for his efforts.

While answering a question, Miandad said "I'm revealing today, I helped Imran Khan become the Prime Minister. I was even there at the oath taking ceremony. But then I never received a thank you call, which bothered me a lot. It was your duty to do so, why did you knock my doors at 2 then? 

Miandad said that during his time in the national team, he tried to keep the margin to a minimum if the team lost, adding that none of the players objected to his style of captaincy.

Imran Khan began his tenure as the Prime Minister of Pakistan in August 2018. He remained in the position for three years but in April 2022, his tenure as Prime Minister ended following the aforementioned no-confidence motion.

Imran Khan and Javed Miandad helped Pakistan win the 1992 World Cup

Imran Khan was the captain of the team that defeated England in the finals of the 1992 ODI World Cup that was held in Australia. Javed Miandad was the highest run scorer for Pakistan and the second-highest overall in the tournament.

The right-handed batter scored 437 runs in nine matches, at an average of 62.43. In the final, against England, Pakistan lost both their openers with just 24 runs on the board. Miandad and Khan stitched a vital 139-run partnership to lay the platform for the batters to come. While Miandad scored 58 runs off 98 balls, Khan finished his knock with 72 runs off 110. Pakistan set England a target of 250.

Pakistan's star-studded bowling attack restricted their opponents to 227 to win their first and only ODI World Cup to date.
