After losing to Multan Sultans in the previous match, Islamabad United needed a strong comeback and they managed to do so with a comfortable six-wicket victory against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, February 23 in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was sensational in United's victory over Zalmi as he smacked 62 off 31 deliveries to help the Shadab Khan-led side get the win and improve their standing on the points table.
Meanwhile, after his terrific knock, the young wicket-keeper batter Gurbaz stated that he focused more on strike rotation, which he picked up from his opponent skipper Babar Azam. He mentioned that previously he used to go for the glory shots but against Peshawar, he changed his game plan and thus, got the much-needed result in his favour.
“Today, the one thing that I changed in my batting was that I also focused on some strike rotation as well before I was just trying to hit too hard and you know take some advantage from the circle but today my focus was also in some cricket good cricket shots not only power so yeah, as I mentioned that we are we had chat about it before the match me and Babar. I just applied that it helped me a lot,” the 21-year-old said as quoted by the Indian Express.
“Earlier, I was trying to hit every ball but today I saw Babar Azam’s batting as well when he was in. I was just focused on that how he hits the boundaries,” he further added.
Meanwhile, when asked about his favourite cricketer, the opener mentioned how he always loved watching AB de Villiers but at the moment, he is a fan of Virat Kohli’s batting.
“From when I was a kid, I liked to watch him (de Villiers) bat. His energy throughout the match. His aggressive hitting. Currently, I love Virat Kohli’s batting,” Gurbaz added.
Now, even though he hasn’t mastered the pull shot, Gurbaz pulled Wahab Riaz multiple times against Peshawar in the previous match and explained that he loves to play it and has practiced it a lot in the recent past and thus, backed himself to do so.
“I practised a lot. I had got out to that pull shot but it’s my favourite. I just go with the instinct. Worked a lot with the coach ahead of this game also,” the cricketer concluded.
