Star Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has shared a special moment from India's recent T20 World Cup 2024 victory in Barbados. Ashwin described how former head coach Rahul Dravid, overcame emotions, hugged the trophy, and wept after leading the team to their first major ICC title in 11 years.
The Men in Blue's win in the T20 World Cup marked the end of Dravid's tenure as head coach. Dravid in his playing career could never win an ICC World Cup Trophy, and that's why, this victory held special significance. Ashwin painted a vivid picture of the scene.
"My moment was when Virat Kohli called Rahul Dravid and gave him the cup. I saw him hug the cup and cry. Rahul Dravid screamed and cried. I saw him enjoy it. I felt that a lot. I want to talk about a person who is sacred. In 2007, during the 50-over World Cup, India got knocked out. Rahul Dravid was the captain at that time. He didn't captain the one-day side after that. He has been with the Indian team," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

The off-spinner went on to highlight the former head coach's journey, touching upon the challenges he faced throughout his career. Ashwin reminded fans of the criticism Dravid faced after India's early exit from the 2007 50-over World Cup, where he was leading the team.
"If something doesn't go well, if the Indian team goes out or loses a match, immediately, they ask what Rahul Dravid is doing," Ashwin added.
However, the 37-year-old was quick to praise the veteran's commitment and meticulous approach to coaching and trying to win trophies for the nation with a different role.
"I know what he has been doing with this team for the past 2-3 years. I know how balanced he has been. I know how hard he has worked to change this approach. I know what he has given each of his players. Even when he is just sitting at home, he has been planning how to do this and that," he concluded.
