The Indian team has been underperforming in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG with both bat and ball. Most of the players have been criticized for their poor performances in the series which have put them on the back foot even in this ongoing Test match.
The Indian bowlers, apart from Jasprit Bumrah who is the highest wicket-taker in the series, have largely struggled in the series. Former Indian legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar opened up on Mohammed Siraj who might have been one of the heroes for the team in 2021 but has failed to make an impact in this series. Gavaskar was critical of the right-armer's performances and suggested the management dropped him.
“I think Siraj, perhaps, needs a little bit of a break. In the sense, I am not saying a break, he needs to be told that he is left out of the team for non-performance. There has to be a situation where you can't beat around the bush. You need to be brutally upfront and say 'Look, your performance has not been up to scratch, and therefore you are being dropped.' When you start talking about 'rest,' players get wrong ideas. They feel they don't need to up their game," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“I think Siraj needs to be told 'Look, you are not bowling as well as we expected you to on pitches that have been helpful'. That is something that needs to be told. If you want to make two changes. Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana to support Jasprit Bumrah. By all means, do that," Gavaskar added.
Siraj might have taken 13 wickets in the series but his economy of 4.07 and average of 33.30 shows that he has lacked consistency this series which has led to the batters scoring some big runs against him in the last two games of the five-match series.
