After having a career-defining 2023 in which Pat Cummins managed to win the World Test Championship, ODI World Cup and also retained the Ashes in England as captain, the star pacer started 2024 with a sensational five-for in the third Test against Pakistan in Sydney. He has been incredible in the ongoing series against Pakistan, picking up three five-fors on the trot and following which, former cricketer Michael Vaughan lauded him and stated that the 30-year-old can become the greatest Australian cricketer after Sir Don Bradman.

Vaughan added that the pacer is extremely consistent and is always up to the mark in the longest form of the game. He also appreciated Cummins’ captaincy, under which Australia have been extremely successful in all three formats. The 49-year-old however clarified that he might not surpass the legendary Bradman but will be close to him, as he still has five-to-seven years left in him.

“I saw a bit of DK Lillee (Dennis Lillie), but I think Pat Cummins. I do not think he is ever going to surpass Sir Don, but I think Pat Cummins is going to be Australia's greatest cricketer after Sir Don. I honestly think he is that good. His bowling. His captaincy. His numbers. He has five to seven years left to play,” Vaughan said on Fox Cricket.

“I honestly think he is that good that we will be talking about him in a few years as being just behind Sir Don Bradman as the greatest Australian cricketer,” he concluded.

Under the leadership of Cummins, Australia are leading the three-match series 2-0 and will be eyeing to win the third Test as well, to complete a white-wash. Bad light and rain stopped the action midway on Day 2, as the hosts are trailing by 197 runs. Aamer Jamal was once again the star with the ball for the Shan Masood-led side, while Agha Salman picked up the other wicket. To bounce back in the game, the visitors need to step up in the remaining three days.
