From the streets of Mumbai to becoming one of the very few cricketers to hit a century on Test debut, Yashasvi Jaiswal has come a long way. After grinding really hard in domestic cricket, the cricketer earned his maiden India call-up for the finals of the World Test Championship but couldn’t find a spot for himself in the playing XI.

Nevertheless, a month later, the UP-born cricketer made his international debut against the West Indies and in his very first match, Jaiswal showed his class, hitting a terrific century on the Caribbean shores.

Notably, Jaiswal is treated as one of the bright future prospects of Indian cricket and is expected that he will be one of the forces to reckon with in the upcoming decade. Against the Windies, in the ongoing Dominica Test, the 21-year-old has played all kinds of shots and shown enough maturity, which has gained him a lot of praise from former cricketers.

Stumper-batter Dinesh Karthik too was full of praise for the youngster as he used Ian Bioshp’s famous lines ‘Remember the Name’ to describe Jaiswal.

“Yashasvi B Jaiswal. I think we will have to 'remember the name' as the words by Ian Bishop sir. I have no doubt that he is going to be a very special player. He has got the shots, range, temperament, and hunger that's going to make him really special. I remember having a conversation with him (Jaiswal) in Goa during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He wasn't getting too many runs and there were doubts, but post that he has transformed into something very special,” Karthik said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

Credit to the Indian batters for mentally knowing what needed to be done: Jaiswal

The veteran cricketer also lauded the Indian team for its batting approach in the ongoing Test in Dominica. He believes that the team should follow the same template against quality opponents as the Rohit Sharma-led side has struggled against top teams during crunch situations in the recent past.

“Credit to the Indian batters for mentally knowing what needed to be done in the West Indies. I hope they carry this in the bigger games because they tend to struggle on quality pitches and against quality opposition. That is exactly what West Indies lacked, quality,” Karthik mentioned.
