I want both SKY and Dube to perform well in Ranji Trophy knockout: Mumbai selector Sanjay Patil
" I want both SKY and Dube not to just participate in this Ranji Trophy knockout match, but perform well, and contribute to Mumbai's victory," Patil told the Times of India
The BCCI diktat has led to a lot of big stars in Indian cricket to make themselves available for domestic cricket this season. The Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy are where we saw some big international stars play in the tournament. Even the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who are certified legends in the game also featured in the Ranji Trophy this season.
The Ranji Trophy will now go into the quarter-finals this season and there will be two more international players who have made themselves available for the Mumbai team in the upcoming knockout match which will take place at Rohtak against Haryana who were none other than India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and T20 World Cup 2024 hero Shivam Dube who have recently had a successful T20I series against England.
The last time Mumbai had some big stars in the squad was against J&K where they suffered a disappointing loss where both Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to make an impact. This was brought up by Mumbai selector Sanjay Patil who also made it clear that he wants the two players to perform in the upcoming game.
“I'm very clear on this. Considering our defeat against J&K, which came despite the presence of six India cricketers in our lineup, which was very disappointing, I want both SKY and Dube not to just participate in this Ranji Trophy knockout match, but perform well, and contribute to Mumbai's victory," Patil told the Times of India.
“I'm still upset at the J&K defeat, which I feel was our worst ever. To accommodate the India players in that match, we had to deprive a few talented youngsters," Patil added.
The match against J&K was one of the most disappointing games of the tournament for Mumbai which also risked their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. The J&K team won by five wickets and Yudhvir Singh Charak was the player of the match who took seven wickets in the game.
