'I wasn't out, could've made 400' - Prithvi Shaw laments missing historic landmark

Mumbai's young opener Prithvi Shaw made a strong case for his selection in the Indian team after smashing a record-breaking 379 runs off just 383 deliveries in a Ranji Trophy clash against Assam. His innings was the second-highest individual score in the history of the Ranji Trophy, but the swashbuckling opener was not content with that and felt he was wrongly adjudged LBW, bringing a halt to his procession.

Prithvi Shaw, who has been out of the Indian setup for a while now, sent the record books tumbling with a historic innings for Mumbai on Wednesday. While the fans have started clamoring for his return to the national setup, Shaw was not content with his mammoth score and was eyeing the magical 400-run mark before being adjudged LBW in the 126th over of the match.

"I wasn't out and could have made 400. It feels really nice. I could have made that 400. I think I was batting really well but it was just a matter of time as big runs weren't coming. I thought I should give myself more time out there in the middle, display patience and the track needed that," Prithvi explained after his record-breaking innings.

The U-19 star who rose to prominence along with current Indian opener Shubman Gill, spoke about the impact of having someone like Ajinkya Rahane in the dressing room. Rahane was the second-highest run-scorer in the innings with 191 runs to his name.

"The pitch did offer seam movement at the beginning and then as the overs progressed, it started keeping low. It feels really nice to bat with a player of his (Rahane's) stature. Someone with so much of international experience. His mere presence around this Mumbai side lifts us up. I always try and learn when an international player comes and plays with us," he added.
